Places to visit in Second Life #5: Relay For Life sims

Godzilla is really dangerous

Godzilla is really dangerous, originally uploaded by Raul Crimson.

This image is taken in one of the Relay For Life 2007 sims. As every year, Relay for Life opens some sims to celebrate the fight against cancer, a fight some people wins. Some Relay for Life friends has built there nice areas, in the image is “The Block” one. Is a nice place to visit, explore and get surprised with the sets and the corners of every sim. Concert areas, shops, vendors, auctions, friendly people, … all is there.

Normally this sims remain opened 1 month so go quickly, before they close ;-)

Search in Map for Relayforlife Start, is the sim where the path begins, but there are more than 10 sims to visit (maybe more than 20, but i didn’t visited all them and was trying to count them but were too much, lol)

“Broadly offensive” Casinos? Economy in danger?

About Official Linden Blog » Blog Archive Wagering In Second Life: New Policy «

I’m not in wagering, maybe just a xploder some days, but again this is becoming “Their world, their imagination…” :-(

About the Linden Lab’s post i have some doubts: is camping considered wagering, or is considered a job? This is only one doubt, but just like in the “Broadly offensive” LL’s post the message is too general and i’m sure hundreds of residents will have hundreds of questions.

Anyway, i’m not sure if Linden Lab did foresee the economical consequences inworld, gambling is part of the economical system, like it or not. Through Vint Falken’s blog (thanks, Vint) i found what Lestat posted in VTOR about the most interesting part about all this: “What will happen to the value of the L$ ? What will happen to the value of the land?” now the casino owners will not have a reason to keep their L$ and land.

Not only this, this “world of freedom” is becoming a “world of US laws” even most of residents are not US nationals or residents IRL. What will be next? Pay VAT in the inworld transactions? (oops, i think i’m giving ideas…)

I’d like to do two suggestions:

  1. Linden Lab should move their servers to a petrol platform in international waters.
  2. or give the possibility to residents of having their own servers (with some open server program, as Ajax Life, this will be easier), following then the laws of each country where the server is (just as the WWW).

Just as final words, i don’t like restrictions, Second Life was a wonderful world without them, although the bad things. Sad times are coming, not only for Second Life.

UPDATE (Jul, 27th): After talking with some people i realized maybe i’m too sensitive about all prohibitions after the “Broadly offensive” Linden post. Surely i’m mixing legal questions with moral ones. Gambling would be a legal problem for LL. You know, is just i don’t like prohibitions. :-)

Second Laugh

Wanted to share with you this!! SO FUNNY!!! :-D

Eric gave me the URL.

First images of our sim :-)

We are still working on it, lots of things to do, you know, but the main terraforming is done.

I wanted to show you the first images, and to play with Second Life video. So sorry for the bad quality, i don’t have a video capturer. For the edition i used iMovie in my Mac.

All this is so exciting, give us a month or two and we will have together a big party. ;-)

OMG!!! Things are changing fast!!!

I’m a resident nine months ago, and still the speed of Second Life surprises me. Of course i’m not talking about grid performance (SL still use to mean Second Lag) i’m talking about all the rest, houses, business, places, people…

After a long time trying to have a bigger store, finally the plots near mine in Roosa were for sale. Hard, but exciting time building, as always. From here i want to thank my love, Eric, for his support and patience, and my friend Khamudy for his help.

Then, suddenly, Eric and me decided to do “the BIG step” (no marriage, this will be in december, the other “BIG step”). Just some clues, is quite big and can have 15000 prims inside. More information about this soon… i’m too excited right now. ;-)

So, as you can see, things are ready to change again soon…
